Rolling Stone recently published a Miss Manners-style guide to pot-smoking etiquette, with the goal of banishing stereotypes and instructing the growing subculture to be responsible, polite and conscientious consumers.

“Whether you’re livening up a dinner party with some gourmet infused cookies or scoring some unlabeled bud from your dealer for your friend’s mom, it is important to consider how to be a good weed citizen,” wrote Amanda Chicago Lewis.

How to best live openly as an ethical stoner, says Lewis, is to keep in mind how “your behavior affects other people, and how can you better educate those around you.”

Pot Legalization’s Eternal, Unsolvable Conundrum

Let’s say you’re marijuana-friendly. (Let’s just say.) And let’s say you live in an area that’s not quite yet so enlightened on the subject, but you want to experiment with exercising some freedom.

So you jet to Colorado, the international model for marijuana legalization, for a cannabis-friendly weekend. Before you can savor a legal smoke, you’ll have to get around a wall of prohibited behavior.

In fact, unless you go to great lengths, you won’t be able to legally smoke at all.

Nevada Pushes Forward with Weed Social Clubs

As pressure mounts from the White House to crack down on recreational weed, Nevada just passed several pot-related bills, including one that will allow for marijuana social lounges and other forms of public consumption.

Nevada’s Senate Bill 236 passed with a 12-9 vote on Tuesday and will now go to the Assembly. Lawmakers are finalizing recommendations and details on how marijuana lounges will function in Southern Nevada (home to Las Vegas), making it the first state in the union to allow regulated weed social clubs.

Earlier this month, Colorado lawmakers put the kibosh on a bill that would have allowed pot lounges. Governor John Hickenlooper worried that such a move might provoke the feds and ultimately threaten Colorado’s billion-dollar industry.
